First — what is copyright?
Copyright automatically protects original creative work — a song, beat, recording, lyrics, artwork or video — the moment it's created. It gives the creator (or whoever they've assigned rights to) the exclusive right to copy, distribute, perform and profit from that work.
Infringement is when someone uses that work — uploading, distributing, sampling or re-releasing it — without the owner's permission. A DMCA takedown notice is a formal, legal request to remove infringing content.
Only submit a report if you own the rights (or represent the owner) and genuinely believe the use isn't authorized. Knowingly false reports can carry legal liability.
